KRAKK ble levert til Bolia Design Awards 2021 som et forslag til en ny generasjon bæredyktige møbler. Kjente teknikker og materialer er tilpasset en moderne forbruker og møbelindustri.
THE TWO-STEP STOOL, OR “KRAKK” AS IT’S CALLED IN NORWEGIAN, HAS FOR MANY YEARS BEEN STANDARD INVENTORY IN THE COMMON HOUSEHOLD. HAVING A VARIETY OF PURPOSES, IT HAS MANY A TIME HELPED OUT A PERSON REACHING FOR HIGHER GROUND.
Krakk is composed by two vertically tilted sides with colored boards extended between them; two boards acts as steps or a seat, while the other one provides stiffness to the structure.
The stool takes it place as an everyday helper, especially in room-efficient households. The design is forward think- ing, yet echoing the works of for instance De Stijl’s Gerrit Reitveld and functionalist architect Arne Korsmo. The stool follows a red thread of Scandinavian design-tradition by being both multi-functional, yet sober in its way of material use.
Constructed by MDF-panels (Medium Density Fiber- boards), the two-step stool is durable and environmental-friendly. MDF has been around for a long time, and is thoroughly tested by both designers and furniture-mak- ers, but at its current state, the material does not reach its full eco-potential. This is because of the resin that glues the wooden fibres together. Tweaking the MDF-com- pound, and replacing the resin with environmental-friendly glue, makes the material more sustainable. This allows the boards to be grounded down and reused some time in the distant future.
The other good thing about MDF is that it utilizes more of the raw material by consisting of both broken down wood-fibers and recycled material. This particular piece of furniture is finished with water-based coating.”
